Need a place during NGJ? Or have you got one? It’s couch-surfing time!

January 21, 2014 at 20:19

Since Nordic Game Jam always sees participants from many different parts of the world, it is important that everyone has not only a great jam experience, but also a proper place to sleep. You might want to jam all night, but you probably also want to take a break at some point, sleep and return to the jam site the next day with new energies.

To help you with that, we are offering once again our couch-surfing ring!

That is: if you have a place where you can host some participants, we would really appreciate it if you could fill out this form to let us know that you have space.

Likewise, if you are looking for a place to stay, you can use the same form to give us the details of when you will be arriving and if you have any special needs.

The same goes if you are interested in getting a room in a hostel, either alone or with other fellow jammers. Just let us know and we’ll take it from there.

Couch-surfing is always a great way of meeting new people, and most of the organizers and volunteers will be hosting some visitors as well. So join us and help make the game jam a better experience for everyone!

We are now ready to officially announce the dates for the upcoming Nordic Game Jam 2014, so mark the weekend of February 14-16th in your calendars and prepare for the best one yet.

Publish your game and win 10K

February 6, 2013 at 16:12

48 hours doesn’t sound like much time for a polished, market-ready game. Small jam games can still demo a great new game mechanic or show a world you want to explore – if only there was more time.

If you think you’ve struck gold – take our challenge: Bring your jam game to the market and have a chance of winning 10,000 DKK. The Nordic Game Jam organization encourages you to polish your game, create more content, more levels, fix the last bugs, re-factor the code, repaint the binary, scramble the faces or whatever you think is necessary to enable selling your game for money.

This is not only a fun competition to win money, but an encouragement to go through a learning experience of “that other part of game development, which is not code or game design” – namely business.

Here’s the deal: Your game must be made purchasable! Any app store, portal, your own website or wherever you prefer to release it. The point is that you’ve taken your game to the market – it has to have a price, and must have sold 1 copy (you have to be able to document it -and no, selling one copy to your mom doesn’t count). UPDATE: licensing deals count as well.

From all the submissions, one winner will be selected. The winner will be announced during the Nordic Game Indie Night in Malmø (free event the night before Nordic Game Conference starts).
Write your submission with a link to the original jam game on and send the documentation of sales to before April 30th.

Good luck!

Btw, we are looking for partners to match the 10K (DKK).

Winners NGJ13!

January 21, 2013 at 17:08

Although we’re all still suffering from jamover, we’ve managed to write this blog post (about time, some would say). Here’s is the voting order of the finalists in this year Nordic Game Jam. The 11 finalist were split in 8 digital games and 3 board games. The board games that made it to the finals were Made in China (Most Fun Board Game), Beast Builder (Most Sellable Board Game) & Burlesque Grotesque (Most Polished Board Game). The theme for NGJ13 was ‘Grotesque’.

Congratulations to all winners and a million thanks to all participants, volunteers, partners, sponsors, organizers and everyone else, who made NGJ13 a huge success! We do this for you!

Cool hardware for your games

January 18, 2013 at 12:01

Nordic Game Jam has always been known for getting quite a few games that use gadgets in cool new ways. But sometimes this hardware can get difficult to get a hold of.

But here come Playground Publishing and Epson to the rescue!

During the game jam all participants will have access to several Epson Moverio BT-100 units. These futuristic-looking 3D glasses allow the wearer to see video when the screen is turned on, and see through the lenses when the screen is off. We’re sure several of you could come up with great playful ideas with these glasses. And they work great with Unity!

But here’s one more thing: make a cool game with them, and Playground Publishing/Epson may finance further development of your game to take it out to the market!

Want to give it a go? Any creative ideas in mind already? Then head to the info desk during the game jam and get one of these units!

More info about the Moverio BT-100 here!
